Douglas Reed, Jr. recalls a passion for reading and drawing from a young age. This led him to attend and graduate from Harding University with an undergraduate degree in Art in 1982. He later attended the Art Institute of Atlanta and earned his graduate degree in Graphic Design in 1989.

In 1998, Doug fell ill and was diagnosed with Acute Transverse Myelitis. This debilitating disease left him paralyzed from the chest down and unable to walk. With the support of his family and The Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA, Doug was able to regain the ability to walk after nearly two years of physical therapy.

Part of Doug’s personal rehabilitation was a return to his passion for watercolor painting. He credits his love for flowers, birds, and butterflies as his inspiration for his reflections on nature.

Doug also enjoys caring for his birds in their custom aviarium, reading and watching anything Disney-related, and working on his wood carving.

Never underestimate his love for pickles.
